Malaysia Vision Valley
SUSTAINABLE INFRASTRUCTURE LEAD, SUSTAINABLE FRAMEWORK DEVELOPMENT
Utile was selected in 2014 to develop a conceptual master plan for the Malaysia Vision Valley in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia (MVV Development). This 267,000 acres study area was to “serve as a model for sustainable development … [and] showcase high-performance infrastructure, exemplary landscape design and iconic architecture as well as raise the standard of living and working for its residents and professionals.” The Master Plan and Visioning effort was meant to further analyze large infrastructure ideas and also zoom in to select locations to define the density and character of each district.
For a truly innovative and world-class project like the MVV development, prescriptive sustainability assessment tools were not adequate to address the unique opportunities and requirements of the development. While at BuroHappold, Steven worked closely with the full design team to develop a Sustainability Management System (SMS) and sustainable infrastructure solutions, specifically tailored to the MVV development. The framework and analytical solutions created a clear overlay to the planning effort and integrated closely with land-use and planning strategies.
